BEZUBA, PART 23

~BEZUBA~

~PART 23~

Tum nai samjhogi par... yeh sab asaan nai hai mere lie. An expression that she didn't recognize passed over his face going away in a blink. He changed the topic. Hum sab kabhi-kabhi kafi pareshan ho jate hai aur I know yeh sab tumhare lie kitna naya hai, tum roi wo completely normal hai aisi situation me. Mujhe usse as such koi problem nai hai.Problem was such a small word for what he had with her tears. Although, he wouldn't tell her that and rather fake casualness.

Geet greatly disagreed. *Mai sirf roi nai, mai toh almost aapke upar so bhi gai.*

At that, he cleared his throat muttering a, that's okay' then regretting it, fearful that she would ask whether she could do it often if it was that much okay. You just never knew what Geet would say next and her innocent boldness was really dangerous.

*Mujhe accha laga... (Maan wondered if she had intentionally made the dots) ke aap aaye.* He uttered a hmm then they both didn't say or wrote anything else. When she had said so many things Maan was allowed to ask a single question.

Tum mujhe bataogi ke tumhe kya problem hai?

She looked at him and shook her head. There was this anxious glint in her eyes which said if he asked she would not deny this time and tell him everything even when she didn't want to. With a nod he gazed up at the ceiling. Geet...Without looking he knew she was nodding. Mai nai chahta ke tum mujhe batao kya baat hai. I know this matter is related to your college. Ghar pe tum bahut dino se ho par tumne pehle kabhi aisa behave nai kia toh obviously yeh baat college ki hi hai. But matter chahe jo bhi ho, I really want you to deal with it on your own. Darke gharpe baithne se kuch nai hoga. Jis Geet ko mai jaanta hu wo bahut bahadur hai aur kisi se nai darti, saari mushkilo ka saamna akele kar sakti hai ek dum sherni ki tarah.

The little smile of belief he gave her was more than any help anyone could ever offer. Blinking back the tears, she reflected his smile and closed the lights. Before sleeping she just thanked Babaji for giving her Maan in a life full of darkness.

The following days fell back into normalcy. At home it was like that night never happened, if anything, Maan seemed to have become busier; he was out till late at nights and sometimes didn't even come back. Meanwhile Geet had started to go to college from the very next day of Karwachaut. Her husband's words had given her new courage and she remembered why she had joined college in first place. No journey was easy and there were many bumps on the road, if stopped on the first one only one would never know how far they could go.

She had also found watch on her bed like she had the laptop and mobile. It was beautiful and looked expensive... for her it was priceless, her first karwachaut gift and she never forget to wear it. The thing was a remainder of their night together and his faith in her. He said he didn't consider her wife but he fulfilled all his duties as a husband and she was happy with that at the moment.

Things were not that great in college though, after that ragging session she had become famous between the students and not in a good way. Whispers and laughs followed her around. To make matters worse and life hell, Armaan didn't leave a chance to mock her. He sang songs n did all idiotic stuff that left her frustrated, angry and humiliated. She was his favorite time pass for whenever he was getting bored. But she ignored all that, Armaan and the other students. So what if she had just one friend and everyday at college was a trip to misery-land. Things were calming down with time and as students started to pay less attention to her she was hopeful that soon she would be forgotten.

Moreover with the massive course she had to catch up with and the umpteen classes left little time to worry about rumors and bullies.

Pinky- Geet, are you done with the drawing and assignment. Geet smirked and pulled out a folder from her bag. Pinky's mouth fell open and she made a puppy face. How did you do it? Geet grinned big and raised her invisible collar while Pinky muttered how she was so dead because the Prof was going to murder her.

Hey babes. Armaan stopped them, the usual bratty look on his face. Geet expressions were passive. What's this in your hand? He snatched the assignment from her hand. She tried to take it back but to no avail. Oh. The good girl always on time. Armaan looked through the folder. You have done good job.

Pinky was glaring- Give it back.

Armaan- Am not talking to you baby elephant. Turning towards Geet, he said with a cheeky smile. Do you want it back? Then you would have to say pleaseee...

Geet was so sick of him and felt like throttling his neck or something. Rather she decided to ignore him. If he wanted the assignment he could have it, she would take the Prof's scolding for one day and make another one.

Armaan didn't let her go and held her hand. Her jaw tightened. Why are you so proudy? Is it necessary to be a bitch? It's just a simple please. Why can't you say it?

Because she is mute. Pinky said taking the folder back from Armaan while Geet removed her hand from his frozen one. Recovering from the shock, Armaan followed them.

Armaan- But that's impossible she-

What is happening here? It was their principal. The corridors had cleared because classes had started. Geet, Pinky and Armaan were the only students out. May I know what you all are doing outside when your classes have already started? His eyes pinned them with a firm glare.

Nothing dad- I mean Sir. We were just going to our classes. Armaan said who also happened to be the principal's son and though his dad was extra strict with him, he still was an untamed bull.

Pinky- No Sir. He was following us to the class and got us late. He is bullying my friend since many days. Geet's eyes widened while Armaan-with big scary eyes-glared bullets at Pinky who was now regretting why she opened her big mouth without thinking.

Princi was fuming- I want all three of you in my office now.

Geet was giving Armaan dirty looks while they halted outside Princi's office.

Armaan- What did I do? It's you dumb friend here who got us into this mess.

Pinky made a puppy face- Am not dumb.

Geet- *I know jaan. Yeh pagal insaan hai iski baat mat sun.*

By now Pinky had pretty much learned to understand Geet's signs. Armaan was amazed to see that Geet indeed was mute, he never noticed. Never tried to.

Armaan- What did she say?

Pinky- Called you pagal insaan. Geet gave cheeky smile.

Armaan- But she spoke... when we first met, I think. He tried to remember.

Pinky- Ever heard of selective mutism?

Armaan- No.

Pinky- I guessed. She spoke as if she was smartest person alive and Geet giggled.

Armaan- This is funny for you? Both Pinky and Geet nodded their heads because in reality only Armaan was in mess while they were just going to push him in the well. Look, I didn't know that you couldn't speak. Kisi ko bhi dhoka ho jaye yaar. Just don't tell Dad. If it was anyone else he would leave them with a warning par mujhe wo rusticate kar denge.

Geet took out her pad and wrote on it. *You would have to say pleaseee...*Armaan raised his brow. And she again wrote further showing him the pad. *Is it necessary to be a dog? It's just a simple please.*

Armaan's jaw went slack, he had always thought of Geet as the bholi-bhali small town gal never getting to see this side of hers. Nonetheless he uttered the magic word and Geet showed him a thumbs-up. They went inside and Geet told Princi that she and Armaan were just having an argument and Pinky misunderstood it. Of course, Princi was skeptical but he let them go without any punishments thrown at Armaan.

Later that day Geet was amazed to see a rose on her usual desk and then another in the library and wherever she went. By the end of the day she had bunch of white roses in her hand.

Pinky- Tujhe kaun itne phool de raha hai? Geet shrugged her shoulders.

As if on cue Armaan came out and pushed another rose in her hand. Geet knotted her brows wondering if it was another way of troubling her.

Armaan- Yeh humari peace treaty ke lie hai. He cleared his throat and scratched the back of his head. Mai sorry kehna chahta tha for that day jab maine tumhe gaane ke lie kaha aur tumhara mazak banaya. Few students who were walking by halted in their steps listening to the S-word from his Armaan's mouth. Kya hai? Ghar nai jana? He told them meanly and again turned to Geet. You are not that bad I have noticed. So if I promise to not trouble you we could be friends? He forwarded his hand.

Kushika- Yeps kiddo. Yeh dheet kabhi kisi ko sorry nai bolta aaj keh raha hai toh maaf karde, isse encouragement milega.

Armaan in sarcastic tone- Thanks for the help, you are true friend.

Kushika- Welcome balak.

Geet noticed Kushika was the same girl who had saved her that day from being further embarrassed. She decided to take her word. Armaan's apology seemed genuine enough n so she decided to give him a chance. With a smile, she shook his hand.

Kushika spoke when Geet and Pinky had left- Yeh sorry worry ka kya chakkar hai?

Armaan- Kuch nai yaar. Bahut badi galti ho gai mujhse. She can't speak n I kind of insulted her for that. I am such a jerk.

Kushika, too, was shocked by this revelation. Yes you are. God's never going to forgive you. She stuck her tongue out at Armaan's murderous expressions. But galti toh sabse hoti hai, gala sabka sukhta hai. She ran as Armaan chased after her.

That night when Maan came back and checked on Geet like he always did without her knowing. The white flowers on the night stand instantly caught his attention. He knocked on her door and she looked at him surprised that he had come to her room.

Maan asked directly- Yeh flowers kaha se aaye?

*Mere college me ek ladka hai Armaan usne die. Sorry kehne ke lie.*

Sorry?

*Haan. Usne meri ragging ki thi.*

What? Ragging is not allowed in your college.

*Aapko kaise pata?*

Tongue tied for a second, he said. It's strictly prohibited in any of the colleges in Delhi.

*Hmm. Teachers didn't know. Aur aap tension mat lijiye sab theek hai. Usne sorry bol dia aur maine maaf kar dia.*

Oh. Maan glanced at the flowers. Ahem, mai chalta hu bahut thak gaya hu.

*Mai khana laga du?*

Nai. Mai kha kar aaya hu.

She nodded and got back to her work. She had learned to give him space. No where it was mentioned that you got flowers for doing that. Next morning a super big bouquet of red roses was there on her doorstep. Geet knew they were from Maan but she confirmed it from a servant. Yet, why he had gifted those without any special occasion she couldn't understand.
How did he know red roses were her fav? Did he give those because Armaan had given her flowers? Was he jealous? She wondered super excitedly dancing in joy. Her whole day went awesome as she waited in to college to go home to her flowers.

In the upcoming days Geet got new friends in form of Armaan and his whole gang. They were all really nice people opposed to what she had thought earlier as everyone accepted her and Pinky in their circle. Out of them all Geet particularly was fond of Kushika, it seemed they both had some invisible connection that didn't need words and they could just know what was going on in other one's mind. Her studies were also going great; she loved the subjects and was now sure she had chosen the right field.
