BEAUTIFULLY FLAWED, PART 37

BEAUTIFULLY FLAWED

Quick Recap:

Geet had gotten to know that Maan has an adopted kid. They goes to meet him in Mumbai at the boarding school where he studies. Geet is surprised to see how small Maan's, and now her's too, son is. They take him for a day out n in the evening they goes to Maan's place in Mumbai upon Dadimaa's invitation for dinner. Things don't go very well there. Although, Maan's step mother loves Manan, Dadimaa totally hates the kid and when Manan spill a glass of water, Dadimaa blasts...

PART 37

Geet held a shaking Manan in arms until he stopped whimpering. It was odd, holding a small child and heartbreaking to not know how to stop those fat tears from rolling down. How did you console a small, motherless boy who was crying because his grandma-meant to be the idol of love-hated him? Obviously Geet had no clue.

From her chest Manan looked up, wiped his nose and stated or asked in a small, stuttering voice. B..adi Dadi hates m… me be… because I am adopt…ed. She sat speechless. His stuttering reminded Geet of herself. Dad is n..ot Dad my! Manan doesn’t have a…nyone.

It was strange for Manan because everyone in his school had parents, from the badest boy in class who ate rubber and stuck bubble gum in girls ponytails to the bestest girl who always got good marks and was teacher’s favorite. They all had a Daddy and a Mummy. He had none. Manan didn’t understand why? Surely he had a Dad but he wasn’t his real Dad because he rarely came to meet Manan. Other Dads came all the time and talked to their kids, bought them toys, took them out… while Manan only saw them with longing. Sometimes Choti Dadi came to meet him but only sometimes.

I also don’t have parents. Geet confided thinking that if Manan knew he wasn’t alone perhaps he would feel better.

Y…ou don’t? He asked eyebrows furrowed. No Daddy? N…o Mummy?

Geet’s throat choked. She really didn’t like talking about it. No. But I have your Daddy and you have your Daddy. He will take care of us.

Manan didn’t say anything and looked down, his chin trembling. Maan marched out of the house a.k.a the grand mansion; his expressions weren’t pleasant to say the least. He took Manan in arms. Are you okay?

Manan nodded stretching his sweater. I w…ant to go b…ack to s…chool.

Maan stated somberly. Yes. We are going there.

Two hours later, Geet and Maan were sitting in the private jet heading back to Delhi. Maan was furiously typing away on the laptop, his jaws firmly set together. Clearly he was mad.

Geet sighed. She got what was so complicated between Maan and Manan. They didn’t share the usual father-son bond. It was impossible considering the negativity around them and Maan’s ignorance. When they had dropped Manan at the boarding school, the child didn’t utter a word in protest, didn’t cry or demanded Maan to come back soon. It was like he didn’t expect anything more than he was provided and was rather accustomed to living without a family.

Maan, on the other hand, believed that good education and taking care of Manan’s needs was enough. Maan didn’t know better, that was how he himself remembered his childhood.

Maan had carried the toys and other things they had brought at the mall earlier during the day and then told Manan to take care of himself, to be a good boy and that he loved him. It was rather robotic; like Maan was ashamed of himself for how the day had ended n didn't know how to express his feelings. With Geet he always shared whatever was there in his mind, although with Manan he was clueless. When Geet’s time came to say goodbye she told Manan-her son-that they would meet again soon n then she had kissed his lips. The little boy had turned the deepest shade of red which Geet thought was super cute.

Manan surely didn’t miss Maan, how would he when he didn’t really know what to miss? Geet doubted Maan had ever spent much time with him. Although, Manan called him Dad, Maan was more like a distant uncle who came once in a while to meet, rather than a father who was your closest buddy and a pillar of unwavering strength.

Geet thought it was unhealthy. Every child had the right to know happiness that came with one’s family. Nothing could replace a family- no teacher, no friends, not even a fancy boarding school. The thought made Geet miss her own family. She stared at Maan’s face and despite his cloudy mood; she snuggled into his side resting her head on his shoulder. My family.

She hadn’t realized she had said it out loud until Maan looked down at her. A sad smile played on his lips. A lousy family.

Nuzzling his neck, she kissed a spot there. I beg to differ.

She knows. Maan spoke. Dadimaa knows we are married.

Her head snapped up. Wha-

She thinks it’s not too late for me to make things right since the word hasn’t spread.

What did you say? Geet asked out of breath.

What do you think? Maan snapped. It’s your entire fault. If we had already made our marriage public Dadimaa wouldn't have been able to say that.

But even then she wouldn't accept us, would she? This is just one person, Maan. I don't want it to be the whole world trying to rip us apart. Her eyes felt hot and misty. I can't afford to lose you.

Me neither, love. Maan rested his forehead against hers sighing. I will burn everything and die with it before that happens.

This feels...umm, good. Geet moaned as the attendant retracted her nimble fingers from her scalp n draped a towel around her hairs. Geet’s feet were soaking in a warm, sweet-smelling liquid. The pack on her face felt cool and so did the cucumber slices on her eyes.

More than Maan? Nikita said from the seat beside her. It was Nikita’s idea to visit parlor for pedicures but they ended up getting facials n hair treatments too. Well, when you had money you could spend it as much as you want and Geet was sure this wouldn't burn a hole in Maan's pocket. He had enough money to buy an island n feed every single person on it for the rest of their lives.

Nikita... Geet reprimanded blushing under the layer of face pack.

Nikita merely laughed. The two girls-who happened to be Nikita's personal attendants-asked them to relax and told they would come back in twenty minutes before leaving the room. Apparently, Nikita visited this parlor often. It was no surprise considering the parlor was extravagant, so much so that it could have been a hotel.

I missed you. Geet told honestly, pouting.

Ditto here. The fashion show in Milan wasn't nearly as interesting as it used to be.

Hmm. We went to meet Manan last week.

Nikita almost fell out of her chair. Wha- you know...? I mean how did you come to know?

Obviously you didn't tell me.

Hey, don't blame me. You know Maan, he never listens to me. If I had said something to you he would have killed me. So… how was your meeting, mumma?

Geet grinned from ear to ear remembering Manan. Her skin hurt ‘cause of the pack n she smoothed her smile. It was fun. We didn't have a blast or anything and the day didn't end very well but I...liked Manan. Like was putting it mildly. She felt much, much more about him. He is very cute and, oh my god, so shy. It’s totally adorable.

Nikita smiled. Yes. Manan is a sweetheart. He sometimes jumbles words while speaking which is sooo charming. Bringing him into our lives is the best thing Maan has ever done. Maa thinks so too. That's why she named him Manan, after Maan’s name. Why'd you say the day didn't end well?

Well, Dadimaa had invited us-actually Maan-for dinner. We took Manan along n he spilled water. She got all worked up and was verbally abusing him. He is just a child, obviously they break n spill things; even I know that. She said some really nasty things in front of Manan.

That's harsh. Didimaa has always hated Manan, since the time he stepped into the house. That is partly the reason why he was sent to boarding school. We are allowed to do charities to show the world, but apparently real noble deeds aren't good for family. How fucking Hippocratic! Seriously, what a woman is without the emotions of kindness and empathy? If she wasn't my Dadimaa I would have done something bad to her.

Always straightforward. Geet smiled thinking inwardly, totally agreeing with Nikita. She bit her lip. Niks, do you think I’ll be a good mother? I mean isn’t twenty-three too young n also I-

Oh, shut up. You’ll be amazing, I know that.

Geet nodded, wishing Nikita was right. I have to tell you something else.

Hmm, shoot.

You know the other day I caught Deepika in Maan's cabin. She was totally throwing herself at him. It really pissed me off so I kind of told her to stay away from my husband.

What the- you did that? Nikita grinned as wide as she could with the pack on her face. You go girl.

Yeah. It was very liberating, to finally to do that. But the thing is before I went in Maan wasn't exactly showing her the door.

Nikita turned in her chair. Oh-kay. So you think that he was encouraging her advances. Geet shrugged slowly not sure what to think. You must be crazy. He practically worships the floor you walk on babes and don't think I am taking his side because he is my brother. I have seen him, Geet, with you and without you. He would never ever betray you. I can bet my life on it.

I know that. But he should have told her off.

Sucks to admit but Maan is a wise Maan. He knows when to do what. When business is involved he plays by his own rules. Deepika can be shrewd and cunning bitch but am sure my little brother is ahead of her. She is his business partner that's why he wouldn't have told her off out rightly. However if she had crossed the line he had drawn, Maan surely would have done something. Things work here differently. Sometimes we have to fake companionship even if we wish to do otherwise.

Geet understood. She shouldn't act like such a baby and let it go. Nikita's words assured her, maybe that was all she needed.

A/N:

I am really very-very sorry for abandoning the story like I did. I'm going thru a rough phase this year in terms of writing. I was totally out of motivation. Somehow, though, I had typed few parts at snail's pace n they all got deleted because of virus problem in my lappy. I lost all hope after that thinking that maybe the fates don't want me to write anymore but finally I was able to type again 'cause I can't leave a story in mid. Also it was the constant support or nagging, whatever you call it, from shru di n some of my other friends that I cud continue with BF. I have banked some parts n will post them now. Try to forgive me n enjoy.

Also, leave a comment if you liked the update or want to curse me.

  3. My heart goes out to Manan. What's his age, anyway? He is a kid not even a teen to understand so much and be so bloody mature. Mature in the sense that he knows what adopted means but what hurt like hell was he understands he shouldn't be demanding anything from Maan, his dad, cos he believes whatever Maan gives is enough. I mean what the hell! He should not be understanding such complicated things about relationship at such a tender age. He is a kid who needs to play, make silly mistakes like spilling water and get away with it and not get scolded at, demand chocolates, toys and to take him back home and not want to stay in a hostel or demand Maan to come and meet him every weekend. I mean my list is never ending at what all Manan deserves to do. I literally felt like reaching out and giving him a hug and assuring him that he can be loved selflessly and he has world's right to demand anything he wants. Gosh!

And Maan? I understand his own dad never provided him with an emotional bond or love but that also means he knows where his own dad lacked, doesn't he? So shouldn't he be doing exactly opposite to what his dad did with him and Nikita or even Dev? Since he knows what he missed in his life from his dad, he should have made sure he gives that all to Manan. Specially cos he is so selfless and unconditional towards Geet. Knows what to say to her to sooth her and make her pain vanish. He goes out of his way for Geet then how can he not even give 10% of that love to Manan? I'm quite shocked at his behavior. It's almost as if there is 2 different personalities to Maan. One, that he is only for Geet and one who is for the rest of the world. Which includes his own family and Manan. His mechanical way of dealing with Manan was quite confusing. Cos he sure as hell has lots of love to shower on people around him.

I wish to see Geet making some effort maybe to bring the kid close to his dad. How painful it is to know that Manan doesn't even know what to miss in his life? It was heartbreaking.

Nikita is a sweetheart. Glad she cleared few doubts that Geet had.

Dadima is a bitch. Heartless woman. Now that she knows MG are married she wants Maan to leave Geet. Wow. Can she for once even consider her kid's happiness? Such a selfish bitch.

Update was intense and emotional. Heavy to say the least. Specially Manan and his thoughts stunned me. Totally shocked to know that kid is already so grown up.

    Also thank you for updating.

  9. Another shocker is Dadima coming to know abt Maaneet marriage n not quite happy abt it . In fact she'd asked Maan to do something abt it b4 its too late :O Geet expresses her doubts abt Deepika & Maan relation abt the fact she asked the latter to stay away from her husband at the same time feeling Maan was not exactly saying anything to her knowing what Deepika is upto . And more bad news was Dev's call :(

Loved it hopefully u continue with both this one & Khumaari .
    THANKS A TON 4 updating❤❤.

  14. Poor little Manan boy, he is frighten and sad thinking about his own state. At this tender age, he knows everything about himself that he is adopted and his dad is just doing whatever he can to make sure Manan lives a good life.
Geet understand what Manan needs, it’s a love and caring from both mother and father. Manan just need some attention from Maan. He is longing for Maan’s affection.
Geet surely will be a good mother as he herself understand Manan’s situation. She can surely unite both father son and they will be one cute little family.

  15. Maan is doing what had been done to him in his childhood. Manan is so small yet behave so maturely for his age. Geet is the only one who can bridge the gap b/w them.

  16. Part 37 –
Manan was so sweet. I too liked him. He knows that he was adopted and felt bad for not having parents like other students. Maan & manan don’t exactly share a bond of father & son. Manan craved for his love. I liked the way geet soothed him and interacted with him. Dadi is really wicked. She came to know that maan & geet were married and suggested him to break off the marriage. She so much hates manan. Liked geet & nikita’s bond too. She shares everything with her and like a good advisor nikita advises her what to do & what not.
